Academic Credit Included

All participants in our programs listed below receive one unit of academic credit for participating in the Dream Careers internship program. Our accredited academic partner, New York University (NYU) – Paul McGhee Division, will issue the academic credit. NYU is a four-year institution located in the heart of New York City. NYU is now one of the largest private universities in the United States. Of the more than 3,000 colleges and universities in America, NYU is one of only 60 member institutions of the distinguished Association of American Universities.

Academic Credit Overview

Internship courses for academic credit at colleges and professional schools enable students to apply classroom learning in the workplace. Using best practices in experiential learning, students reflect upon the professional environments they will be entering and develop an understanding of the competencies they will need throughout their working lives. They explore the particular practices of a profession or industry, and refine or reassess their career goals.

Students participate in eleven hours of coursework, to be conducted on-site and/or online, during which they learn to identify the skill sets associated with their internship that will allow them to perform to the expectations of their site supervisors. They will also explore learning strategies, general codes of conduct, and networking approaches which create a context for individual growth and development throughout a career. A lecture/discussion series by distinguished professionals sponsored by Dream Careers highlights the opportunities and challenges within various fields and helps students think about "job fit." Academic assignments are specifically designed to enrich the learning experience throughout the internship.

Transferring Course Credit

At the end of the summer, you may request that your unit of credit be transferred from NYU to your school. We cannot guarantee that every school will accept course credit from NYU, so if this is important to you, please check with your school's Registrar before the program begins. Information on how to obtain your transcripts will be provided upon arrival to the program.
