WORLD'S LEADING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Dreamer Spotlight: Ashley Schuweiler
A couple weekends ago, Ashley Schuweiler told suitemate Jess Mitchell that she had a feeling her life would be thrown a curveball. Little did she know the curveball was coming later that day.
Ashley wasn’t even going to go out this particular morning because she wasn’t interested in seeing the Bodies exhibit. But when her friends decided to go to South Street Seaport, Ashley tagged along.
The jaunt to the Seaport was interrupted when Ashley asked a stranger to take a picture of the girls. The man encouraged her to audition for a new reality show a la The Amazing Race. Since the auditions were at a series of tents set up at South Street Seaport and since Ashley is a devotee of The Amazing Race, she took a chance and auditioned.
When she got to the tents, Ashley found out more about the show. It is a new reality program that will air next spring on CBS. The title is TONTINE and it involves a competition between 15 people to scramble across all seven continents to find 10 keys. On the various continents the contestants will have to perform survival tasks to stay in the game. The best part - The winner receives a prize of 10 million dollars.
At the audition, Ashley found herself seated in front of the director of the show. She handled this intimidating task by using her natural humor and charm.
The director asked her about her college experience. Ashley shared the details of going to a small all-girls Catholic college. She told him about changing her major from Nursing when she figured out that she didn’t like touching people. Then she mentioned her brief foray in business.
By this point, the director of the show was very comfortable and impressed. However, the cherry on top was when Ashley cracked a joke in response to his inquiry as to whether or not she was single.
The director then asked Ashley point-blank what she was doing in August. When she replied that she didn’t know, he asked what her plans were for the next 100 days. She asked why and he replied, “Because you’re coming to Los Angeles.” Ashley was so excited that she got up and hugged the director, leaving him quite red-faced.
The show is finishing auditions in other cities and will fly the top 50 candidates to L.A. in August.
Ashley is a senior communications major at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota.
